Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Imposes Heavy Fines on Casino Operators
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) recently announced that it has imposed fines totaling $282,205 on three gaming operators for various violations. Additionally, the board has placed several individuals on its involuntary self-exclusion list as part of its efforts to ensure compliance with gambling laws in the state.
BetMGM Penalized for Self-Exclusion Violations
One of the operators fined by the PGCB is BetMGM, which was penalized $260,905 for allowing self-excluded individuals to gamble online. This serious violation of the state’s gambling laws led to the hefty fine being imposed by the regulatory body.
The PGCB revealed that BetMGM had allowed 152 instances of self-excluded individuals to participate in gambling activities, prompting the enforcement action against the operator.
Aside from BetMGM, Rush Street Gaming and Stadium Casino Westmoreland were also fined for smaller violations. Rush Street Gaming faced a penalty of $13,800 for failing to submit a principal license renewal application for its chief financial officer, while Stadium Casino Westmoreland received a $7,500 fine for using revoked software on 11 of its slots.
Individuals Placed on Involuntary Self-Exclusion List
In addition to the fines, the PGCB has included nine individuals on its involuntary self-exclusion list. Among them are four adults who left children unattended while gambling at casino properties in the state.
One such incident involved a male patron at Live! Casino Philadelphia who left a 12-year-old unattended in a vehicle on two occasions, each lasting about 20 minutes. This individual was also cited for cheating and trespassing, according to the PGCB’s report.
Another case involved an adult woman who left a 12-year-old unattended in the bus lobby of Mount Airy Casino Resort while playing slots for approximately 26 minutes. Both individuals have been banned from Pennsylvania’s casinos as a result of their actions.
Reminder on Responsible Gambling
The PGCB reiterated its stance on the prohibition of leaving minors unattended at casino properties, emphasizing that such actions can result in placement on the involuntary exclusion list. Since its establishment, the PGCB has placed 1,280 individuals on the casino involuntary exclusion list and 62 individuals on the iGaming exclusion list.
